I definitely had this set - I remember the red and gold lad getting it in the back, and the bald gentleman's knee-up pose. Crikey, I haven't seen these in at least 40 years.

I'd completely forgotten this - the dashing heroes had a glow-in-the-dark border around them! And there's the purplish troops... not quite as purple as I remember them, but this is them. The head villain I guess is the red and gold lad, quite a Battlestar Galactica feel to him I think.

I've got it! I'm pretty sure the one I remember is White Squadron Space Adventures. Some of these backgrounds look very familiar:
