Metal Gear Solid blew my mind

I hadn't realized video games could have that level of narrative and be that cinematic at the same time. I never played anything like it previously

It felt like a game changer and my anticipation of a sequel is the only reason I got a PS2 on launch day

I believe they were self-funding scanning and remastering of specific targeted episodes and then releasing those to build funds to remaster entire seasons, one at a time, until the entire show was finished
