I found this on a numismatic website, described as a Hiberno-Norse penny from Dublin, and dated to the early 11th century. The birds could be cranes or herons. Is there a different, earlier one from Wood Quay in @nmireland.bsky.social.

In Connecticut since 2019 & spreading fast in New England, beech leaf disease is now affecting millions of American beech trees. It's caused by a microscopic foliar nematode, probably originating in Asia. Sadly we had to have 6 of the dead & dying trees in our yard taken out yesterday. 😢 🍃

Great fun yesterday to give one of this semester's research seminars for @uhiarchaeology.bsky.social undergrads. I focused on climate risks to heritage, & stewardship options. Not just sites but also intangible CH & culturally important species

Went to the Westport Country Playhouse's brilliant new production of "The importance of Being Earnest". Love looking at the dozens of old posters there. So many from Lillian Gish to Shoshana Bean has performed there. Joanne Woodward & Paul Newman were heavily involved for many years. #theatrehistory

The presumed farmer appeared on the cover of the 1956 excavation report. But not the chicken 🙁. #zooarchaeology

An extraordinarily evocative depiction incised on slate, possibly of a Viking Age farmer, from Jarlshof. And if the bird on the right is a domestic fowl - as is usually said - it would be one of the earliest on Shetland.
