"Someone asking if they’ve read a book is a specific question".

When you ask people this, are you literally asking them if they have physically laid eyes on the words written? Do you have any blind friends? Do you talk to them about fiction at all? Or not, since they can't literally read?

A completely moot point. No, they did not literally read the book, but that isn't what the asker is interested in. They're interested in whether or not they know the content of the book. What's the point of dying on this hill? No one is debating literal definitions of words here.

Listening to Andy Serkis narrate LOTR was incredible. Listening to the Belter accent in The Expanse series was incredible. Audiobooks can potentially even elevate fiction in ways that text cannot. It seems like such a pointless argument.

The ultimate heresy is using both with Whispersync 😈

Agree with your points. I've never seen someone say "Oh have you read LOTR?" (excited to talk about Elves and Hobbits) and someone said "Oh yeah I listened to the audiobook!" and then they go "Ohhh :( too bad you haven't read it". (The person is still going to want to talk about Elves and Hobbits).

Just a heads up, in dark mode, the title is quite hard to read :)

Life is political. The only people that can ignore politics are the excessively privileged.
