🧠🌟🐭 Excited to share some of my postdoc work on the evolution of dexterity!

We compared deer mice evolved in forest vs prairie habitats. We found that forest mice have:
(1) more corticospinal neurons (CSNs)
(2) better hand dexterity
(3) more dexterous climbing, which is linked to CSN number🧵

If you need to compare matrices or two-dimensional data that can be brought into matrix form, consider using Singular Angle Similarity: journals.aps.org/prxlife/abst...
Assessing the Similarity of Real Matrices with Arbitrary Shape
Singular Angle Similarity measures the similarity of real, arbitrary matrices by taking into account their two-dimensional structure, outperforming standard methods like cosine similarity or Frobenius...

Spent a week in Arizona with these amazing people at the inaugural summit for the Raynor Institute. We are trying to advance the next generation of neuromodulation to help those with cerebellar disorders and maybe more.

Even though UNC had an off year, at least Duke are not national champions. I’ll take it. Along with a natty for @uncwomenssoccer.bsky.social

Just thinking about how inspiring David Ginty’s Perl Prize talk was. Thanks David

Such bad news.
Just learned that the Sensorimotor Neuroscience (SMN) study section is postponed indefinitely. Over 100 proposals to understand and treat sensorimotor diseases that will not be evaluated or funded. Thousands of hours wasted by writers and reviewers. All due to the Republican block on NIH operation.
Wondering if your study section cancelled? I update this sheet daily. As of today, 56/124 study sections that should have met since Jan 2, 2025 have "not met as scheduled." docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

Been thinking a lot about rejections in science, since I have now seen it from both sides. Been a particularly tough week for my lab. Of course, it is part of the process, but it is also important to compartmentalize the effects. Especially to minimize impact on personal life and family.
