May the 4th 5k, Long Beach. The force was not with me. 26:15. 80 seconds slower than last week, almost 3 minutes slower than previous race in December. Still had fun waking early and running along the beach with Star Wars fans. And grateful I can even do this at all. Onward!

Santa’s Toy Trot 5K, Long Beach, 23:29, 7:34 pace, 8th out of 133. Today’s t-shirt = my high school XC team. I’ve run six 5Ks over the last 12 weeks. On 9/22 my time was 26:27, 8:30 pace. Shaved 3 minutes off that time, 56 seconds off that pace. Feel good. Not bad for an old man with bad knees…

We were traveling and then I got sick, so I didn’t log as many miles over the past 2 weeks—22 miles total. I did manage to fit in a 5-mile run in Central Park in the snow. And I’m almost finished with Peter Carroll’s history of America in the 1970s. Trying to run and read more in 2024…

Another 15 miles this week, and I’m almost done with this book about the Beatles, written by a reporter who traveled with them in late 1963 and early 1964. Terrific behind-the-scenes account. And I managed to listen to 9 Beatles albums on my runs this week and last. Onward!

Week 1 of the new year, week 3 of my goal to run and read more heading into 2024. Logged 16 miles this week, slow and steady, exploring some new trails nearby. Also finished this history of the cassette. Especially enjoyed the chapter on why & how people made mixtapes (I made many back in the day…)
