Here’s a strange lil guy from the latest issue of The Louisville Review.
The Art of Locksmithing If there's truth hay-hidden inside this needling panic, its key comes in the form of a horse head. It's from the second century and on view somewhere at The Met. I could see it in person if I wanted to —take the Amtrak north and arrive in two hours time, but by horse, I'm sure the trip would take much longer. The thought gallops away when my sister sends me a telegram by way of cell phone. She said last night she had to intubate a child on his front lawn and goes on to explain that breathing is the key to living. I inhale and hold. I exhale and cough confetti. Surprise! Only truth can design a key to the soul. Don't tell the locksmith. Instead, write a secret on his grave. An epitaph in the shape of a trachea. Though whether from human or horse is entirely up to the living.

A page from “Red Studio” by Mary Cornish. The poem is “Color Wheel” and reads: Red clover isn't red the way the bottom of a boat is red, especially where it meets a green lake. Red clover's more like purple, where the smooth globe turns to meet the shadow side of a yellow pear. That is, the clover's head is purple, but not actually a head, not one that turns and looks. Even this red clover, false in one way or another, has three true leaves, which is all anybody could wish for under a sky which is blue, especially where it meets an orange sun.
