Global Entry is similarly magic, to the extent that you keep waiting to be stopped because you can’t believe it is this fast.

Oh no! I had it a few weeks back. Plenty rest and hopefully you’ll be fine soon :)

G-A-Y Bar finally died last month but this did not reduce the number of good gay bars in Soho.

He’s like a fable where someone wishes to be the richest man on earth, the genie warns him that if he grants the wish, he’ll never be happy again and he thinks ‘but if I’m rich, how could I be unhappy?’

Well I mean it’s not like the communities around Heathrow have any large and famous populations of British born South Asians that might tip him off to that fact…

That's a shame. Caught a few season 36 episodes and my basic thought was 'if this didn't have The Simpsons characters in it, I'd probably quite like it' (I just can't get over Marge's voice, I'm sorry)

I think I'm the first man on one side of my family in about 200 years not to serve in the military (and that's because my eyesight kept me out)

I'm not playing down the danger of half our media driving itself insane like this but they really, really need someone in their life to go 'mate, what the hell are you on about?'

Why do we have to listen to these mad people? How can we normalise people laughing at them for being silly?
November 10, 2025 at 7:00 PM
Yup! Definitely Starmer’s fault. If only the government would get out of the way and let the private sector run things (although in this case ‘private sector’ mostly means ‘other governments’)

Why he flew from Dublin to Paris via London in the first place is definitely a question but apparently this is a sign of broken Britain because we all remember that Heathrow was utterly fabulous and never lost bags ever back in the 90s and 00s
November 10, 2025 at 6:08 PM
*puts on Heathrow nerd hat* honestly I don’t understand the story. He talks about asking an immigration guy where to go but AFAIK you don’t pass immigration arriving into LHR from Dublin. But basically he faffed about, got to T5 too late, was nearly offloaded but then wasn’t.

He flew straight on to Paris so he’s France’s problem now
November 10, 2025 at 6:00 PM
That is a rather important detail I forgot!

Bernard Ponsonby, who was STV’s political editor for years and years worked for the SDP and stood for the Lib Dems in the 80s. Still managed to do a perfectly decent job.

There’s a line in a BBC News promo from about 25 years ago (don’t remember who said it) “You leave your opinions at home, hanging up in the wardrobe” and that’s exactly it. You can have them, in a sense you probably should as it shows you’re considering the issues. Just don’t bring them to work!
November 10, 2025 at 5:20 PM
Certainly no sign of that episode being broadcast on the North America feed of BBC News before the election (they occasionally cut and repackage Panorama episodes for the global version of BBC News but can't see any sign of that one)

Also it's not new? Reading a fancy book in order to make other people think you're smart has been a tired cliche for decades?
November 10, 2025 at 3:52 PM
Does Gareth McLean pop by when you’re putting your coat on to go home to offer a wry take on the discussion you’ve just had?

God I miss the Media Talk podcast. can still hear the weird drums and whistling theme tune.

It fits in with the broader BBC News trend of surgically removing any personality, fun or uniqueness from its output.
