Not endorsing it—just observing. If capitalism picks winners, it’s picking the child-free. Culture follows economics, not the other way around.

Want higher birth rates? I don’t love it but.. make parenting core to economic mobility. See: Amish, Hasidic Jews, traditional rural labor economies.

Or invent a new capitalist system where kids = economic value (but also dignity) , so people have more of them.

Even massive subsidies won’t solve it. Kids delay careers, reduce productivity, and require huge investment. It’s economically irrational to reproduce under modern capitalism whether it’s hungry or Sweden or Brazil and Japan.

Almost every economy with capitalism is seeing birth declines: U.S., EU, China, South Korea. Exceptions? Places where the economy depends on children’s labor, traditional collective roles, immigration from collective socities, etc

Before the 1950s, families were useful for economic survival even in capitalist societies. Now tech + market logic have made the individual the most efficient“unit of production.” So why have kids?
May 30, 2025 at 11:59 AM
Families use more resources than they produce (education, healthcare, subsidies). Meanwhile, child-free adults work more, spend more, pay more taxes. Capitalism favors them. They’re the ideal capitalist unit.

A procession of camels becomes a skyline — a quiet meditation on displacement, memory, and cultural change . Part of a series reclaiming Arab identities from orientalist texts, this work layers watercolor over pages from a vintage Victorian adventure story to subvert, rewrite, and reimagine.

Neighborhoods not one stadium:
- Wharf = DC paid $300M investment → 6K jobs, $960M revenue.
- 1.1 billion = 4 Wharfs (2 at RFK and 2 elsewhere)
- Add a tourism draw for $200M (cost of NYC’s Vessel)
- Taxable development beats tax-exempt stadium. And housing and 30% of which is affordable……

Create quality transit
- Say… 150–250M/mile light rail or use 350M for Potomac Yard as examples.
- That is a Ward 7 light rail plus a Union Station to Georgetown light rail.
- that’s a Petworth–Silver Spring line
- The NoMa station alone paid for itself and more

End generational poverty:
- 30K DC kids in poverty today
- 1.1 billion = 36k fund per child = $200K in 18 yrs
- Let them use it for any combo of college, vocational school, housing, health
May 22, 2025 at 10:12 AM
Affordable Housing:
- $150/sf subsidy = 10K units (7.6M sf)
- That’s 2 Navy Yards
- Convert vacant offices, use RFK
- Hire feds to speed up permits
May 22, 2025 at 10:12 AM
Use it to employ laid-off federal workers:
- $600M brought Amazon + 25K jobs to VA
- $20M brought 2-3K high-paying jobs w/ Moderna
- Target employers who want federal workers
- Require DC residency for incentives

The Current Commanders Stadium Deal:
- $1.147B taxpayer subsidy
- 140 acres (much is floodplain)
- 20-40 acre Stadium isn’t taxable
-40 to 60 acre mixed use (similar to the Wharf in size)
- 4K jobs mostly relocated
- Rich Owner lives in Miami
- Players often don’t live/pay taxes in DC
