His true motivation is that he fears that if taxes are on auto-pilot there will be less awareness of taxes and thus less resistance to taxes.

There’s a vicious circle here. The land values are higher because of the value of the tax shield, which is attractive, passive investors. That is why “P/E ratio” of these assets is so inflated. If the tax share was eliminated, the value of land would reflect just the income potential of farming it.

Why can’t the proposed taxes offer an exemption for owner-operators where the inheritor can prove they are working in a hands-on / non-administrative role? In those circumstances, the taxable threshold could be raised to perhaps £5 million.

There is plenty of data to show that the electorate viewed Harris as too liberal. While that might have been somewhat vibes-based, moving further left on policy surely won’t improve that perception.

Rahm Emanuel is an wants to win and knows how to run things. The DNC needs to be ruthless about owning the middle ground in politics. I think he might be the one to get us there.

If you want to veer to the left and lose, sure, he’s not your guy.

It can take a long time until a technology finds adoption.

My favorite example: QR codes were doing very little for a decade. Then Covid came along and everyone learned to use them for menus and so on. Now they are used for lots of little use cases.
