Slightly over-estimated the height of my ceiling before cutting my tree this year. Turns out the ceiling is about 14 feet 1 inch at the spot where the top of my tree stands.

We need to normalize voting in Every. Single. Election.
Voting is fun.
Vote in "insignificant" elections.
Vote for (or against) the unopposed city council candidate or municipal judge.
Vote every chance you get.
Together, we are more powerful than wealthy oligarchs and corrupt politicians.
Vote.

If you have the means to do so, now is a good time to think about supporting your local food pantries. Many of them rely on federal funding that is not coming right now.

Donate food, hygiene products, or give money if you can, since they have bills they can't pay with cans of food.

If you have a business that caters to families, please be aware of the effect that your Halloween decorations may have on kids. My son is very sensitive to scary/creepy things, and it was impossible to find anywhere in St. Louis this weekend that wasn't full of skeletons. He was kinda miserable.

Accidentally uncovered two Mourning Cloaks that were napping in a pile of cedar rails. They are absolutely stunning butterflies.

Perhaps the solution to the Fermi Paradox is that the Internet is the Great Filter. Every civilization dies when influencers convince their loyal followers to reject science, and they all die from preventable causes.

This morning, my daughter (6) added a black hole to a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. Then, for emphasis, she added a second black hole to destroy my rock. My son (9) commented about detecting gravitational waves. It seems the @neildegrassetyson.com book on astrophysics for kids was a good idea.

Reading an atricle about the frontrunners to be the next pope, and the first guy on the list is named Pierbattista Pizzaballa, which is the best real name I've seen in a long time.

Your movement cannot be based on the dehumanization of any group of people and also be rooted in Christianity. The two are mutually exclusive. ALL people are created in God's image, and we are called to love them. No exceptions, no matter what they did or where they are from.

Spent this evening sitting at the edge of my freshly burned prairie while dozens of Woodcocks buzzed and danced and flew over and around me. It was a very relaxing way to end a day.

One thing that bothers me in Sci-fi movies/shows is computer or phone displays that are mostly transparent. Maybe there are some niche applications for that, but would you really want to see through your main computer monitor? That would be really distracting and probably hard to use.

Need a timeline cleanse? Here's a video of the barred owl that lives in our woods. (S)he? comes up to the prairie most evenings before sunset looking for a meal.

My son told me to make up a dad joke yesterday.
"What's the difference between a shopper at a discount garden center and a pianist at a department store?
One pays pennies for plants, the other plays in Penny's for pants."
He didn't get it.

I always assume that by surrendering all my personal information to Google, that I'll be always served relevant and interesting advertisements, and yet every ad I see on Hulu is a fragrance ad. Fragrances give me massive headaches. I shall continue to dream of a brighter future.

The bluebirds have been busy eating grubs and nesting, and it's just about egg time. First egg was May 10 last year. We had 9 babies in 2 broods last year. What will this summer bring?
