Is there sufficient energy storage to cope with the variability of solar as the majority of the supply? Maybe it doesn't matter too much with enough coverage.

I think you probably made the right decision anyway. Its a beast as a dedicated 3D printer. Get a laser machine if you want a laser machine.

Most companies will want to control something that they're paying for and keep it secret to have a hold on the market. On that basis I think it's unlikely to happen.

Well i think the most obvious is that you arent going to be printing large ABS things on a mini. It won't fit and will warp.

If you over simplify the question, then you over simplify the answer. There is more to a printer than just print quality, which arguably has been easy AF for a while now.
