Amid reports of a UK AI Bill, what did we learn about AI and the 'public good' from communities across the UK?

• Good is what is joyful - and not just about technology.
• The diversity of 'good'.
• A good society supports everyone.

To ensure equity and inclusion in our research / findings we made sure to include underrepresented groups:
🔴people with less digital skills
🔴people on lower incomes
🔴people from minoritised ethnicities.

The public do see benefits to specific uses of AI, and perception of overall benefits (e.g. speed & efficiency) is similar to 2022.

However, levels of concern have increased for all uses of AI. There are common concerns around:
🔴overreliance
🔴mistakes
🔴lack of transparency in decision making.

The results provide valuable insights into public
🔴awareness and perception of different uses of AI
🔴experiences of harm
🔴expectations in relation to governance, regulation and the role of AI in decision making.

Key findings include:
🔴 Public awareness of different AI uses varies widely.
🔴 Two-thirds (67%) have encountered AI-related harms, with false information, financial fraud and deepfakes being the most common.
🔴 Half of the UK public (50%) do not feel represented in decision-making around AI.
