Travis Head’s century in Perth in the 1st Ashes Test is the joint-6th fastest in all Tests & the joint-3rd fastest by an Australian.

Adam Gilchrist did it in 57 balls & Jack Gregory in 67 balls; David Warner matched Head's 69.

Zac Crawley is the 4th ever England opening batsman to record a pair in an Ashes Test in Australia. Trevor Bailey in 1959, Dennis Amiss in 1975 & Michael Atherton in 1998 were the others. #Ashes2025 #cricketcounts

Mitchell Starc had his best analysis in Test cricket today in Perth of 7-58 in 12.5 overs. In his previous Test innings as a bowler he took 6-9 v West Indies. So Starc’s last two analyses in Test cricket have given him combined figures of 13-67. #Ashes2025 #cricketcounts

Joe Root has never scored a Test century in Australia. Nor has he won a Test match down under. He has scored 9 fifties & averages 35.68 from 892 runs. Only Ian Bell & Sir Alistair Cook have scored more fifties in Australian Test matches in 21st century down under. #cricketcounts

Simon Harmer has become the 4th South African to take 1,000 first class wickets. Charlie Llewellyn, Mike Procter & Alan Donald = the others. Harmer is only 1 of 2 cricketers anywhere who debuted in the 21st century to reach the milestone. James Anderson the other #cricketcounts

Sarah Mullally is (or will be when formally installed) the first Archbishop of Canterbury to share her surname with anyone who played multiple Tests for England since Matthew Hutton in 1758. More recently Geoffrey Fisher and Rowan Williams shared theirs with one Test wonders.

RIP Australian cricketer & coach Bobby Simpson. He played in 62 Test matches for Australia scoring 4,869 runs at 46.81 win 10 tons. He also took 71 wickets at 42.26. His highest score was 311 v England at Manchester in 1964. He led his country 1963-68 & then again 1977-78. #cricketcounts

RIP Dilip Doshi, Indian slow left armer who played 33 Test matches & took 114 wickets at 30.71. He is 1 of 4 Test bowlers to make his debut after turning 30 who went on to take over 100 Test wickets. The others are Clarrie Grimmett, Saeed Ajmal & Ryan Harris. #cricketcounts

Sir James Anderson leads Lancashire out at Stanley Park in Blackpool. It's his 300th first-class match, his 97th for Lancashire, and his first as captain (standing in for Marcus Harris, on paternity leave). He won the toss, put Kent in, and started with three maidens.

RIP David ‘Syd’ Lawrence. He played 5 Test matches for England taking 18 wickets at 37.55. In all first class games he took 515 wickets at 32.07. In List A cricket he took 155 wickets at 26.43. He also played in one ODI taking 4 wickets at an average of 16.75. #cricketcounts

2nd June is some day in Australia. Born on that day were 3 of the country’s finest players, Steve Waugh, his twin, Mark Waugh in 1965 & Steve Smith in 1989. Smith averages 56.74 in Test matches whilst Steve Waugh averaged 51.06. Mark Waugh averaged a mere 41.81. #cricketcounts
