I think devices with the symbol are used so young now that it doesn't have to be intuitive, it just represents 'save'. I'd be really curious to see another symbol for it arrive but I'm genuinly at a loss at how else it could be represented. I think most people think of the 'save button'

Nobody under 30? I'm only 23, Christ 😆 I actually don't think it needs to be more intuit-able, in a symbolic sense, the simplified image of a floppy disk represents saving. I think it's actually interpreted closer to a wordmark now than something that is supposed to be skeuomorphic.

In design semantics that actually probably makes it a perfect icon, does it not? Inexorably connected with the idea of saving, to the point where gen alpha probably only really associate it with saving digitally. I'd be curious to know how you'd replace it though.
