I'm interested in tech and how multicultural lenses noticeably alter our viewpoints

Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦 / Boulder, CO 🇺🇸
Legal requirement seems a fairly high bar (our whole enjoyment of podcasts is that anyone can set one up, no?). But agreed, I *always* default to transcript reading if possible.

Some of this is that I don’t have a daily commute to fill, but I’m there for new ideas, not to listen to a convo 😉

Yeah, many of the big changes in Saudi Arabia are driven by the near-term population bubble that is going to hit in the next 5-10 yrs. Good government works to stay ahead of its population’s needs, but it can lead to major impacts on a lot of things …

Does anyone have recommendations for low maintenance humidifiers? I want something that does not turn toxic quickly.

Most of the code you write I quite like reading by, but I do start wondering about your life choices right now …

Checks … can’t find prices on main page (that can’t be a good sign … it was not a good sign). We like you Chris but that’s pretty steep 😉

If only there were a setting for QuickBooks Online … ugh, the upselling push for new services is bad, about to explore migrating to something else to get away from it

Hmm, my read of developers.cloudflare.com/rules/compre... was that you could have Brotli all the time, you seeing something different?

Main issue I’m seeing is it seems to target the “compress dynamic content” use case more than prebuilt static assets as it’s seemingly Level 4 compression
Compression Rules | Cloudflare Rules docs
Use Compression Rules to customize the compression applied to responses from Cloudflare's global network to your website visitors, based on the file extension and content type. Compression Rules are p...

Cloudflare does support Brotli (they used to have a legacy flag that worked and recently sent o have moved that to a different system and regressed - ie if you had that flag on, it wasn’t enabled in the new system). Was cleaning that up last week on a site where Brotli *had* been on

I was looking at aws.amazon.com/textract/ for a client about 12-18 months ago, not sure if that’d be of use for some of your items? If formats change regularly it might not be worth it but if formats stay relatively stable it was useful
OCR Software, Data Extraction Tool - Amazon Textract - AWS
Amazon Textract is a machine learning (ML) service that uses optical character recognition (OCR) to automatically extract text, handwriting, and data from scanned PDF documents, forms, and tables.

Yeah, construction uses what is widely available and cheap in a given location. In the US, wood is cheap and so 2x4 construction became quite prevalent. In Saudi, there’s lots of raw ingredients for concrete (sand anyone? 😉), so things shift that way. But concrete is a very poor signal conductor …

So yes, I fully agree with Ethernet is best, only wish I could. My office is less than 30 feet from our primary AP and I had to get an extra powerful device in order to have good enough signal with reliable latency. Turns out US construction methods really impact our undergird tech options/ opinions

I've got fiber backhaul (Saudi Arabia has invested heavily in fiber-to-the-premise, it's *awesome*) but in-house it's wireless all the way. Why? Two words: concrete construction. All houses / apartments are built with concrete and cable runs that make it easy to rewire are non-existent ...

If you rebuilt the GUI for Zed to be proper Mac and submitted a PR do you think they’d accept it? 😉 But yes, I hear you, pure Mac apps are a joy to use (Panic ones have been amazing over the last - checks calendar, gulps - 15+ yrs). But Mac-first UIs rarely go past the Mac. I want pairing w/ others

Are you on web? Or in the app? App seems to work fairly well for me. “but why would you care about what else was happening on your feed? 😜”
