The Trump regime has deployed the National Guard to Washington DC and is threatening to send them to even more cities. This represents another gross abuse of power that we all must reject.

At least four Wisconsin sheriffs' departments — Brown, Dodge, Douglas, and Sauk County — are paid jailers for the deportation machine.

Being undocumented is not a crime, yet we're seeing families split apart and frequent violations of due process rights.

We won't mince words: SCOTUS issued some devastating decisions this term.

From digital censorship to gender-affirming care bans, here's some key takeaways from cases impacting civil rights and liberties.

U.S. Supreme Court decisions that rolled back our rights. This year's biggest rulings, what they mean, and what's next. Trans rights case U.S. v. Skrmetti. What happened: In a 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court upheld a Tennessee law that bans gender-affirming healthcare for transgender youth, stripping life-saving medical care from kids in Tennessee and 25 other states with similar bans. What's next: Gender-affirming care remains legal for trans youth in Wisconsin, and we will fight to protect that right. Immigrants' rights case Trump v. Casa. What happened: In a 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court opened the door for partial enforcement of the clearly unconstitutional executive order attacking birthright citizenship if the courts did not take further action to block it by late July. What's next: The ACLU immediately filed a class action lawsuit and a judge ruled to block the order while litigation continues. First Amendment case Free Speech Coalition v. Paxton. What happened: In a 6-3 decision, the court upheld a Texas law requiring age verification to access sexual content online, forcing users to share information that could be vulnerable to data breaches in order to access protected speech. What's next: We are currently fighting a similar age verification bill in Wisconsin. Track AB 105/SB 130 at ACLU-WI.org/Leg.

Numerous courts in other states have ruled that questioning students without reading their Miranda rights violates due process protected by the Fourteenth Amendment. It is time that the Wisconsin Supreme Court does the same.

Happy Juneteenth! As we commemorate emancipation and honor the revolutionary role of Black people in securing their own liberation, we must also think about the progress we still have to make.
A timeline marking major dates leading to the celebration of Juneteenth, including the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 then people enslaved in Texas learning about it two years later on June 19th, 1865, followed by the 13th Amendment on December 6, 1865, which officially abolished of slavery except for people convicted of a crime. Juneteenth became a federal holiday on June 19, 2021. Wisconsin has observed Juneteenth since 2009 but has yet to make it an official public holiday. Today, the fight for racial justice continues.

Sheriff departments in twelve Wisconsin counties have signed 287(g) agreements with ICE, formally working as its partner in deportation. #End287g
We call on Wisconsin sheriffs to end all 287(g) agreements, which allow termination at any time. We urge local law enforcement to refuse to hold people on immigration detainers, or to share information with ICE except where it is legally required.

We're glad that the court agrees: Due process exists to protect everyone from abuse of power, and a fair legal system cannot exist without it.

The mass termination of thousands of international students' status without notice was a blatant assault on constitutional rights.
