It was Peter Dutton in Australia. The final nail in his coffin was he was going to put Australia's version of Candace Owens in charge of a DOGE committee, and she wore a "Make Australia Great Again" hat. Plus, Dutton has no personality. He had the rare loss of also losing his existing seat. Lol

You know, I said the same thing when I read a comic earlier today where a venom symbiote attached to a mouse (Venomouse) wanted to help its host find a dream. Entirely out-there concept, beautifully captured in the familiar and comforting medium of Wanda Maximoff and her last door. I was sold.

Tbf, Goose started this whole post with essentially "my prior potential foreshadowing had forseen consequences", so I feel like we're given a pass, and being encouraged, to have more very-much-forseen consequences

On the designing bit, characters won't stay consistent in my head unless there's a firm Name and Face connection made. Hair color, nose size, head shape, even gender presentation will all shift around unreliably for the same character, and I can't help it unless there's a design that "looks right".

To couple with your take on being able to read horror, but not watch it, I also struggle watching. I can visualize by reading, but I have a lot more agency than with film when it comes to Anticipation, Outcome, and what I can block out mentally. But I can't "design characters"; I need official art.

"Not a Nation of Immigrants" interested me as one title I hadn't seen before, and I do want to thank you for mentioning it here. Do you mind if I ask a precise question about it? Either what I'm looking for is in there already or it could still be a springboard to talk about something oft overlooked

I'm partial to Audre Lorde and James Baldwin. I recommend this one book by Isabel Wilkerson so often that someone would think it's the only book I've read, but her book on Caste is exactly about US exceptionalism and language as a tool of oppression; the maintenance of roles, legacy, and the like.

You've probably gotten an earful from Gwenpool fans, but you knew the character we wanted all along. I'll hold my tongue about corporate oversight, but, at the same time, coming from a fan who just read all this:
