A British alternative type in the Midlands. Cookery, RPGs, comics and strangeness. Not necessarily in that order.
This menace applied for the job a decade ago. Apart from the random scratches and disasters, it seems to be working out.

Post a team you would send instead of Bongino and Patel.

This was Sultana's post to X and Facebook two days ago. Bit of a disconnect.

"No cheating. Your last saved celebrity photo is your therapist. Who is it?"

...well. That'll end well.

2. Thud! (Terry Pratchett)

There's no shortage of Pratchett books that could go onto this list. Some others might join it later.

But let's start with this one. Extremism, historical feuds, building bridges...

Vimes becoming what he was always going to be.

And Mr Shine. Him diamond!

1. Espedair Street (Iain Banks)

There are a lot of Banks novels I really, really like. But this is one I love.

Dan Weir's rich and lonely and broken. A former rock star living in Glasgow as "Jimmy Hay", pretending to be his own caretaker. This is how he got there. This is what happens next.

I mean, that's an impressive display of 'PR skills' from Team Starmer. Just not a positive one.

Re-reading David Hare's scathing play about the Iraq War and its aftermath, "Stuff Happens".

Feels like it's about time for a revival.

There are other bands who made an impact more recently, but only one gets saint status and dozens of "they played here" blue plaques.

And only one wrote Ghost Town, the city's unofficial anthem.

"Vindaloo F1" is a relatively new chilli pepper variety. Pretty hot, looks striking, developed in the UK.

Naturally, it's *named after* the style of curry.

Whereas google's AI search assistant claims it's "popular in Indian cuisine", especially for vindaloo curries.

AI slop strikes again.

Changing plans mean I get one more summer in the current house. Which means I get to enjoy the fruit trees one last time.

The plum tree is blossoming.

Oh, it's Dampier again. I guess it's consistent with his other views. Horrible man.

And with headlines and articles like this, the last vestiges of any affection for @theguardian.com fade away.

This is no way to talk about an authoritarian, bigoted government with fascist leanings. This view does not need a platform in the British press.

Lauren Mayberry at the Birmingham show last night. Which was excellent.

We got the whole of "Vicious Creature", with "Sunday Best" wrapping up the encore. Fine way to spend an evening, and good support from Wolff.
