Of the 1,100 men he had recruited, only 160 returned alive.
In the statue in Uxbridge he is shown pondering a letter, telling Mary Walton that her husband has been killed. The letter in his hand begins: “Dear Mary . . .” He has been described as someone who died not in battle, but of battle.

I may have just experienced a miracle...

The city is such a great place when you replace people in cars with just people...

Bikes don't have to be practical to be practical. I have a bike I use for errands like groceries, but that doesn't mean I can't stop by the grocery store or farmer's market at the back end of 80 Km ride on my road bike that was intended strictly for exercise.

Not groceries this time, but occasionally necessary...

Short one today... 25 km
... as I get back on the road bike post op. It's pretty great that we can ride this far, and much further if we want, and have all but about 100 meters be on dedicated cycling infrastructure.

I'm all in favor of transportation alternatives, including things like the electric scooters scattered around the city, but blocking sidewalks (at Lisgar and Metcalfe) for hours at a time really doesn't help the reputation or acceptance...

The Giro Aerohead time trial helmet looks ridiculous... until you see it in use live, like on today's ITT at the Tour de France. Then it looks like a bullet (despite Vingegaard's performance being less than perfect).

I was tempted to suggest they edit "Drive Thru" to "Ride Thru". It uses most of the same letters, and people in cares are riding too.

Special guests in town. We stopped to make sure they felt welcome while on our way to the grocery store.

Ship of Theseus time. I keep thinking I'd like a new bike, and then I realized that the only bits on the bike, other than the frame, that are as old as the bike are the seat post, handlebars and brake levers/shifters. So, I guess it is newish?

From @deadder.bsky.social. A picture is worth its weight in rare earth minerals... a lot more than 1000 words.

Same here in Ottawa, although they'll get removed over the next two weeks. The catch is they take all that snow and put it in snow dumps around the city. Those gigantic piles usually last until August.

Nothing illustrates Poilievre's credibility on Defence quite like going to Iqaluit to talk about Northern defence while the current explicit threat is coming from the South.

I've been a Canadian voter for 50 years. I'm not sure I've ever seen anything so blatantly corrupt as getting a $200 cheque from a sitting government in the middle of an election campaign.

Doug Ford does not deserve another win.
