I thought I'd have a quick try on my phone and edit the picture to extract more detail. It's not perfect but if you've other pictures of Friday then I'd be willing to see what can be done.

I would guess that they used a spot meter for the exposure with it metered for the cat. Hard to tell if the effect was deliberate or accidental, but I agree the outcome is great. Uncomfortable with how the cat is held though.

I appreciated the struggle. If you have a dedicated camera, then flash is very useful. Bouncing the light is key. If you don't have a moveable flash head, experiment with a piece of white card to direct the light upwards to the ceiling.

It's amazing how good cats are at directing you towards treats. I enter the kitchen, cats suddenly appear around me.

I love technology, but I have been noticing a worrying trend in this direction. Phone apps associated with devices pushing e-waste, URLs in books such as this, it's a trend that worries me and has done for some time. I hope that in the long term we'll find a solution.
