Numbers are simple. A song hits #1, sells 10M albums, hits 1B streams on Spotify and views on YouTube. That did better than the one that hit #5 on the bubbling under chart, sold 3k, and maybe has like 10k streams/views. When it comes to music composition, lyricism, symbolism, art direction, etc +

A lot of people online don’t stan artists. They stan success. Countless times I’ve seen criticism towards artists being met with “My fave outsold yours” or “At least my fave isn’t flopping on the charts”. Too much online discourse revolves around numbers and not artistry. And it kinda makes sense.

This is why I’m so against Pokemon implementing paid DLC and making you sign up for Switch Online to access events. This stuff should be accessible to everyone. Save the exclusive stuff for Worlds. But sealing one of the main aspects that people wanted these games behind a paywall? Nope. 🙅♂️
