Overall, we should not allow government shutdowns to become routine. This is going to hurt Dems in the future. Rs won the election. Let them govern and let the voters decide in a year.

Federal workers no longer have to go to food banks and the damage done to the city of DC has been bandaged (as it is, some old DC neighborhood restaurants had to go out of business because of the turmoil)

There will be a future vote on healthcare. It will put every R on the record. The Rs agreed that they wouldn’t fight Federal worker rehires. The Republican senators gave themselves the ability to seek 500k in restitution for having their phone records suspended during 1/6/21. Bad look.

The Dems got national attention on this issue. While both parties were increasingly blamed, the Republicans and Trump received more of it, as they should for failing to negotiate. The admin had other self-inflicted wounds that it was hard to distract from without Congress to distract folks.

It wasn’t a surrender. It was a victory. And I wonder how many people complaining about it were going hungry from lack of benefits or having their court cases delayed or unable to get disability benefits processed.

We need to know if they had a warrant. The government cannot do this without a warrant. Even then it’s an incredible excessive of unnecessary force. Hopefully those officers will not receive qualified immunity and face personal liability.
