He's been asked to do the role & he's quite right to take it on if he believes he can do it BUT, as you say, it's just symptomatic of poor decision making from the SMT.
We all want it to work, but through past experience, not many believe it will

The best thing they can do is add "verify" which shows who is the real account, until then it's all a little wild west.
Will be interesting to see how they handle the bots that will inevitably flood here as it becomes more popular.
