I absolutely adore this one. It has a lot of emotional ties to personal experiences I've had with bad trips. Nothing like forewarning hallucinations lmao. But the feeling of uncertainty for your safety and comfort is a huge one. The confusion and desperation is something I'll never forget

for something more out of these characters, something I knew I couldn't get cause Fujisaki was already taken, and now Owada too had to pay the price. What should have been is TRAGIC, and to not acknowledge or feel that, is what makes you miss out on the true satisfaction in understanding this game

The best example I can give is case 2 in DTHH, that case is so heartbreaking. To see Ishimaru so devastated was NOT satisfying to me. Yes, I solved the mystery and figured out it was Owada, but to see him ruin his potential friendships and future was NOT satisfying to experience. It left me hoping

The mysteries are the cherry on top. These characters are what drive you to get through the game and see it to it's end. Whether that's wondering who did it and why, or just seeing who survives. Satisfaction, to me, is not what makes a case great. It's the intrigue and it starts with characters

Yes, Danganronpa is a mystery game. Yes, it has very weird and even BAD writing choices. But to say that's all it is, is disingenuous at best and ignorant at worst. You don't find the clever and charm in just the mysteries, it's the interactions you have with the characters and getting to know them

But that's about it he gives this game praises for. Everything else, but mystery and visuals got shit on. The mystery aspect and nothing more was praised. Not even anything about the characters themselves; which is the main focus and drive of this game. ITS LITERLALY CHARACTER FOCUSED!!

This article oddly enough only talks about the writers experience playing the first game while in highschool and then replaying it as an adult. He goes on to say the mysteries in the game and the satisfying feeling of your efforts acknowledge that you've figured it out is what made him feel so smart
