This is part of the Inflation Reduction Act and is a tax credit from that law. They are just masking it as their largesse. In fact, it is applicable to leasing as well. I leased my 24 Ioniq5 and this credit was applied to the overall contract value

Oh yeah AND with access to iCloud photos taken away from it, the Google Photos app on iOS basically goes into "I'm broken without access to your iPhone photos," which is the thing started this whole problem to begin with.

Now of course after you do this and purge the trash Google doesn’t immediately recognize that you have in fact freed up that storage and keeps trying to upsell you more storage
