I’m testing a post from the Flashes app. This was a trail near Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park.

The ‘big beautiful bill’ mandates the sale of millions of acres of public land. These are photos from trails in areas that could be sold. These lands should remain available for public enjoyment.

Past Little Ranger peak, I attempted to hike through a section of forest burned in the 2017 Norse Peak Fire. After 20 minutes and about as many scrapes and bruises, I gave up on climbing through all the blowdowns. But not before seeing this Ptarmigan!

A friend and I are walking around Lake Washington (in four ~15-mile chunks.) Spotted this by the NOAA office today.

I spent perhaps the last sunny day in Washington for a bit along the Skagit River. Saw bald eagles, killdeer, merganser, an American Dipper, a deeply incompetent presidential administration wasting government resources on hateful legislation, crows, robins, buffleheads, and one (1) opossum.
The sun peaks out through leafless trees, lighting up a shaft of steam over a river bend. Frost-covered vegetation in the foreground, mountains and blue sky beyond. A feather stands oddly upright between round stones in the ice along the edge of a river. Eagle tracks in damp sand. A possum walking on a stony river edge, headed toward the refuge of a grassy bank.

I had a fun misty morning along the Carbon River today.
Several logs with large rootballs in the rocky, mostly dry Carbon River. A misty day with gray clouds and a hint of mountains in the distance. A black-tailed deer in the middle of a dirt road overhung with mossy evergreens. A riverbed, mostly dry, with blue, red, white, and gray stones. Evergreens, clouds, and a tantalizing glimpse of blue sky beyond. Feathers, perhaps grouse, covered in dew droplets, on brown and green cedar needles.
