He served as U.S. Ambassador to Nepal ('18-'22) and Namibia ('22-'25). He also served as Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor and as the first Special Envoy for LGBT Human Rights ('15-'17)

The U.S. hosts an Embassy in Brasilia and 4 consulates. The Brazilian embassy is DC, with consulates across the U.S. The countries have named 6 Priority Areas of Cooperation: education, social inclusion, trade & investment, democracy & human rights, peace & security, and science!

When Brazil gained its independence in 1822, the U.S. was the 2nd country to recognize it in 1824. The U.S. and Brazil maintained a relationship throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, including Brazil providing the only South American troops to the European Theatre in WWII
