The train pulled away from the station, slowly. We were headed to the 9264th level and the climb would make my stomach churn if we accelerated any faster. Just as well I couldn't afford the express route. Would I see him one last time? What's 5 years, I thought as the hibernation pod activated.

Follow me, it's right over here. It wasn't over there. I ducked through the thick brush, eager to see the visitor, but I could see neither them nor Aidan. Expecting that this was one of his tricks again, I pushed all the way into the clearing - I wasn't there, was here, but not there, am everywhere.

When did this become Mars? Who could remember. He was confident parents, grand and great, had been born under the domed canyon. Maybe the double greats lived in highest cliff caves. He wasn’t sure. Mars was life under the glowing roof; a vast vertically expanding opaque silicate metropolis.
