I usually add the serifs. It would be nice if that were the standard, even in otherwise sans serif typefaces.

Perhaps, but today there is greater integration across long distances. A meeting via telephone, video chat, or similar between people who now share the same time zone but who use local time would be harder to coordinate. (continued)
