This is the clearest, most relatable visual of explore, refine, apply. I'm going to start using this with teachers.

Also, half a sucker? No need to ask. IYKYK 😂

Great context. Exploring usage and how it accelerates battery use would be interesting to compare too. Which apps use more? At what rate? What does it look like on a graph? Love it!

It's the outside work hours that's the key. Otherwise teachers will feel obligated and admin might expect prompt responses to things at all hours.
There are so many comments made about teachers and schools from people who think they are like the private sector. So frustrating.

Can't wait to start watching them. The most misunderstood SMP is modeling. Because we use the word model to mean different things it gets a little blurry. And the plethora of posters online that have it wrong do not help.

This is a great example of subtraction as difference! ❤️ It is an overlooked skill as we work towards non counting strategies. Most middle schoolers solve subtraction with addition or take away thinking. Then we get to slope in 8th grade and it all breaks down.

When you say "justify" do you mean explaining how they got to the wrong answer as if they thought it were correct, like a common mistake and what was the person thinking. Or that they have to explain why it's wrong. I love both ideas. Curious what you have done.

And say it with confidence so they have to really think through the mathematical reasoning of their work. 😁

I love Cuisinaire rods! They are great for so many things.

I would add n-tiles to that list too. You will know what I mean but others won't. Once I understood how to use them they are amazing at building multiplicative (and division) reasoning.

I did not like this one. Took a lot of hints because I could not figure out the theme.

Whenever I feel like things are crazy (at least once a day 😜) I tell myself "people tell me I will miss this"
