February 1st marks the first day of Black History Month. The new US Administration no longer wants to recognize Black History Month, but I plan to always celebrate it. Why? Because knowing our history matters and no amount of erasure will change its importance to all human beings.

To put it in perspective, Jim Crowe was in my parents' lifetime and they are alive and kicking today. My Dad was born in April 1955 and Rosa Parks made history by refusing to give up her seat on that bus in Dec 1955. I refuse to let people forget it was 100% legal to disenfranchise Black people.

My Mom made it happen - I was one of the fortunate who got a Cabbage Patch doll the Christmas of 1983 🤣😍.
