But oh how all of us wish he would talk about this with a therapist, because surviving dad was useless as a father, and it’s so clear that the unresolved trauma of adoption has affected him greatly. Yes, your adoptive mom was a force of nature; AND it’s okay to wonder about your bio parents!

This really resonates. I married someone adopted in the 1960s, as was their sister (from different birth parents, years later). Adoptive mom died in her 50s. Sister sought her birth family out but my spouse has ALWAYS said “my mom was my mom, I always knew adopted, and it would be disloyal.”

I knew a grandmother who gave a grandson a box full of all different sorts of cool tape for his bday because the mom, her DIL, wouldn’t let him even touch the household supply. Said he “wasted” it on “creations”. No surprise, he grew up to be an engineer. 😆

Love the energy of these encounters! People who are familiar with dementia or brain injury — whether as the affected person, loved one, or caregiver — will resonate with this deeply. So glad I joined this community today and discovered your work.
