A #snowy #star for #Christmas! Corgarff #Castle was originally the fortified home of the Forbeses of Corgarff. Built in 1537, the castle was remodelled after 1745 and turned into a soldiers' barracks. New wings were added to each gable wall & it was enclosed by a star-shaped curtain wall.

Another great pic of #archaeology in #winter in #aberdeenshire: #prehistoric hut circles & a field system at Jericho. You can see one very distinct hut circle with two field walls or banks leading off it. Other possible hut circles or platforms are visible, field walls & stone clearance heaps.

We might not get a #WhiteChristmas this year, but how about some snowy #archaeology instead? This late-post medieval depopulated settlement is at Lynathort in #Aberdeenshire. The #snow highlights the building footings making them easier to see.
