This is mostly done by putting power into the hands of workers councils, using direct democracy when ever possible, and being willing to accept that even the best leaders are wrong some of the time

In a communist society there will still by some lucky assholes that get themselves into positions of power. Communist societies need to be organized to minimize both the number of assholes that get into positions of power and the amount of damage those positions allow bad actors to create.

I agree that it is better than in capitalism, but assholes are not going to regulate themselves to only existing in day to day life just because we make it impossible for the lucky ones can get rich by manipulating the stock market and lobbying politicians.
