I was interviewed in this Business Insider short documentary on #H5N1 bird flu, including the impact on egg prices & why this outbreak is fundamentally different from past ones. @stanforddeptmed.bsky.social @stanfordpress.bsky.social youtu.be/O-j2dhQdk44?...

My interview with ABC 7 News discussing the massive funding cuts to state health departments and the effect this will have on our health. This includes cuts to infectious disease surveillance programs that will make us more blind to what’s circulating among us. @stanforddeptmed.bsky.social

Spoke to @kristensze.bsky.social about Trump’s NIH Director nominee, Stanford colleague Dr. Jay Bhattacharya. In 2020, I had debated Dr. Kulldorff (co-author of Great Barrington Declaration) on Democracy Now regarding Covid19 policy. (Video truncated here due to 1 min limit)

Kristen Sze @kristensze.bsky.social asked me how I am feeling about bird flu overall right now…
What the public may not realize is that this response is even more complicated than #covid19 was — I say that as someone who worked on Massachusetts’ state response in 2020
#H5N1

I would avoid consuming raw milk as it relates to #H5N1 #birdflu— while we haven’t seen transmission that has definitively been linked to drinking this source as of yet, that may in part be because testing has still been very limited outside of certain exposure groups. @kristensze.bsky.social

The case of #H5N1 bird flu in a child in California has been confirmed. The source is unknown. I spoke with Kristen Sze @ABC7 about the implications of cryptic transmission. (Had to cut it short here bc only allows 60 second videos on this platform)

Kristen Sze ABC News asked me if the #H5N1 bird flu situation has pandemic potential.

Yes it does.

We saw this in 2009-2010 with H1N1 and viral reassortment/antigenic shift among avian, swine and human influenza viruses.
