While serving in Vietnam, Col. Ned Edward Felder got a care package from a 12-year-old girl, Kristina Olson, in Michigan. His thank-you note started a correspondence that spanned years, continents, and divides of age, race and culture.
“He made me want to be a better person,” said Olson, now 68.
