I'm still so angry at the Jewish leaders who taught me that Zionism was inextricable from my Judaism, and disappointed in myself for wondering what was wrong with ME that, even after a trip to Israel, I felt more connected to eastern Europe than "the Jewish homeland."

The ACJ grew from within the Reform movement. The seeds of non-Zionist American Judaism are here already. I have been told that non-Zionist American Judaism is an impossibility - but the existence of ACJ makes that patently false.

When I was an intern for a national Jewish nonprofit in 2003, the executive director once told me about the American Council for Judaism after I shared my misgivings about the Israel I was being asked to support. He told me they were non-Zionists too... And they were no longer around. 1/2

I'd been feeling that way, but it turned out that I was a victim of the media I was consuming. I had to realize it, name it, and then look for sources of hope. I hope that helps you. It's really difficult to see it sometimes, especially when we're each so busy just surviving.
