🟢 All over at Nishigaoka and Tokyo Verdy Beleza claim their first league title of the #WELeague era.

Everything came together for them today, capping off a tough but well managed season. 🏆 🏆 🏆

En-route to the JEF v Omiya double header at Kokuritsu. The drizzly conditions should make for an eventful set of games ☔️ #Jリーグ #WEリーグ

That concludes today’s #WELeague action and what a spammer in the works we have.

Urawa’s loss to Niigata means Beleza hold top spot on goal difference, despite losing to pursuers INAC. Essentially it’s theirs to lose with the +9 GD but I feel more banana skins lie afoot 🤔

A pivotal day for the #WELeague season as results will determine which of the big 3 takes pole position heading into the final 2 games.

🧵 But who needs what?

Yuki Nagasato calls time on an illustrious career largely spent away from Japanese shores.

I had the pleasure of interviewing the former World Cup winner back in July for @theguardian.com

Her outlook on the game was intriguing to say the least 👇

How I have Japan’s starting (L) and finishing (R) formations for today.

4-3-3 to 4-4-2.
February 21, 2025 at 12:26 AM
Japan’s current formation in possession. 4-3-3 with Kumagai as the 6. In the early stages they’ve been sending a lot down the left flank with Kitagawa and Fujino overlapping well with both Hasegawa and Kumagai offering options.

A few snaps from the first two matches of my #WSL tour 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Man U v Man C and Everton v Spurs. Both games produced some fine moments and plenty of goals to talk about. Also really loving the vibe here 👌

🗣️ “if football was played only in the space between the two penalty areas then Japan would perhaps be the most successful team in history.”

This and many more golden nuggets in my exclusive interview with Nadeshiko boss, Nils Nielsen.

✍️ Drops tomorrow for @theguardian.com

It was an absolute pleasure to interview new Nadeshiko Japan boss Nils Nielsen earlier today. A jovial gentleman to say the least!

In an exclusive coming soon the Greenlander outlines exactly what must be done for Japan to re-emerge as world number one.

🗞️ Stay tuned!

2-1 over Yamanashi Gakuin after ET 👏 🏆

Yes, it helps when you’re already playing in a senior league but they were seriously put to the test at this tournament. Toyo Uni and Yamanashi also stood out as strong contenders.

Both sides out on the grass for the Women’s Uni final between Nittaidai and Yamanashi Gakuin.

Both sides have proved themselves capable so far. It all boils down to the next 90 mins followed by ET and pens if tied. #日本体育大学女子サッカー部

Yamanashi Gakuin beat Waseda Uni 2-1 and advance to the final where they’ll meet Nittaidai on Monday.

A very good display against a strong Waseda side with Japan U20 WWC star Aemu Oyama in midfield.
