It is, I don't blame you for missing that. The game is already sparse on inter-party dialogue, and without things like camp life interludes or explorable homes the grand feeling the narrative is trying to evoke falls flat.

I agree, but there's also social spaces in the game like the Sandsea and Balfonheim's tavern, and a few houses in Arcadia. The game's narrative design seems like the culprit. It really favors open field areas and dungeoneering over urban environments.
