I’m going to miss all this. I’m going to miss all this so much. There’s an endless starry sky above me and a rolling sea of grass studded with tall wildflowers. The forest reclaims the edges and I sit with the soft breeze of the night. I’m adrift, halfway from my my homes, one in the mountains and one in the suburbs, a few days more of driving and that’s it. I’ll be back with my parents and my siblings and figure out where to go from there. Now, I just have a camper and a pickup truck and a camping chair alone in the wilderness. Then my phone jumps in my pocket and I jump with it. “hey victor,” says the screen, “flight landed and im waiting for my ride. u ok?” Surprised I even get a signal out here, but I run the time tables in my head. Nina would have landed like a day ago. We’re out of sync. The phone buzzes again. “you don’t have signal lol. sorry. just let me know how you are when you can.” A moment of silence and I just let it pass. Nina cried when there was no more time left togehter. Long distance wouldn’t work. Neither one of us would be able to take the trips needed. We would still talk and check in and be cordial about it. Then she cried when I dropped her off at the airport and I fought back tears for a few hours until I had to pull over and stare at nothing for a while. That was the start of my trip and now I am in the middle of it. The phone jumps again and I am back to now before the tears start again. It’s a picture this time, slowly descending from the sky and into my hand. I laugh when enough of the pixels come in. Despite the fact that I am vastly, incredibly alone, I look around. This is not for the bears or the wolverines or the hawks. This is for me and me alone. It’s Nina again, no text, but also no clothes. The camera’s above her, more or less what I would see when we found ourselves in that situation. It takes a bit more time, but the tattoos on her arms come in as fine needle thin threads of plants and fossils overgrowing one another. My fingers still remember the path that they traced so many times. I’m already feeling a kick deep in my core and that’s before I get to her chest, her stomach, the flair of her hips and I remember, down to my bones, how she feels when we are together. I glance around again. I see stars and wildflowers and pine trees. It’s all natural, I tell myself as I keep staring at a phone screen. I gently work myself free, half hard and still lying down my thigh. I take her in, the small little simulacrum of what I had and let it flow into my mind. The picture dances and giggles and gently nudges into my chest and that just makes me harder. I press my palm into my length and let out the breath. I set the phone down. I don’t need it anymore. I work my length and feel it slowly fill my hand. It eclipses my palm and a good long section is out and free, feeling the cold breeze of the night and all that it entrails. I am alone. I stroke and I work, feeling the core tighten until I am fully hard and twitching. It remembers. I remember. My mind goes back to Nina, just resting on my chest and kissing my neck. Nothing frantic, nothing ecstatic, just a press of a body so slight and toned against mine. She was always so much smaller than me and that was half the appeal for both of us. It’s gentle, enough to creak the chair underneath me, enough to rustle the grass with the wind and I keep working my length. The ghost kisses my chin and whispers something I don’t catch and that’s enough. Gentle, calm, my stomach clenches and my climax hits in a long wave. A heavy pulse, a long rope of seed hits my chin and stains my shirt, Another long pulse pools across my stomach and saturates the cloth. Nina’s laughing softly, wiggling her hips and urging me on from her space across the country. Just for a moment, I am blinded before the world snaps back into darkness and another takes its place. I sit with this, clench my thighs and slowly let myself go. It’s long. It feels so long before I come to. The grass and the trees, my camper and my truck, all that’s still there. The stars and the moon and the sky, nothings changed. Nothing about all this will change. I will just be somewhere different, probably with a cleaner set of clothes and access to a washing machine so I don’t have to live with what I’ve done to myself across a few more state lines. I sigh and wipe my face. The phone buzzes again. I check it one last time while the warmth in my core slowly fades. “just something to remember me by, big guy,” says Nina.
