I was having a conversation with Ezra Levin, who co-founded Indivisible, and he told me something that I haven't been able to get out of my mind. He grew up in Texas and he said that at a lot of the evangelical churches that he knew as a young man, the parking right next to the church, the closest, best parking, is reserved for people coming for the first time.
