Public relations, birder, runner, mom to Lily!
I’d love an episode of @ifbookspod.bsky.social on the study covered in The Daily today. The “rigorous” study showed that monthly checks did little to help disadvantaged children. The checks were only $330/month, the study seems extremely flawed but plays perfectly into anti-welfare sentiment.

We live in DC now, so naturally, we introduced Lily to Lucy, the National Zoo’s oldest and sweetest orangutan.

In some bittersweet personal news: We're moving to D.C. in January for my new job. If you're familiar with the area, I'd love any insight or advice about life there--where to run, where to ride bikes, where to bird, where to make friends, where to take kids, etc. :)

Brown Creepers aren't creepers at all, they are actually pretty cute and very welcome! They are also the only treecreeper in North America. I spotted this guy near the Bodie Island Lighthouse in OBX. #bird

My 4-month-old daughter is currently learning how to blow raspberries. She spends a lot of time trying. It made me realize how much of parenting is discovering and marveling at life’s smaller wonders. Like the wonder of sticking out your tongue, blowing through your lips and making a farting sound.

In late October, @hgargan.bsky.social and I spotted a banded Piping Plover at Oregon Inlet, NC. We later found out the Plover’s name is Hoku. It was banded as a chick at Prime Hook NWR in DE earlier this year. We were the first to report it after it safely departed its breeding grounds!
