This is one of the monasteries near my house, back in my hometown, Dehradun, India, like a 5-10 min walk, feels very positive energy all around the area because of this. Although it's near the Himalayas, it has a more Japanese style

Mindfulness today is everywhere, but Week 13 made me ask what’s missing when we remove it from Buddhism? Without ethics or wisdom, it risks becoming just a tool for stress, not real transformation.

Week 9 reading helped me see how Zen shaped American culture. Teachers like Suzuki Roshi made meditation part of everyday life. Zen centers focused on sitting, silence, and simplicity. It changed how many people understand Buddhism today.

“Just as a candle cannot burn without fire, men cannot live without a spiritual life.” – The Buddha
This makes me think about how people need more than food and comfort. We also need meaning and purpose.

The mind is everything. What you think, you become.” – The Buddha
This reminds me how powerful our thoughts are. Training the mind is not just for peace it shapes who we are.

The early Buddhist nuns in the Therīgāthā spoke clearly about their suffering and freedom. Their poems show that women reached awakening and found peace through the Buddha’s path.

Devadatta tried to kill the Buddha. And yet the Lotus Sutra says even he will become a Buddha. is it too much forgiveness ?

Is Zen just sitting? Or is it slapping, shouting, spontaneous poetry, and tea?

Can’t stop thinking about Nāgārjuna. He didn’t just teach that everything is empty he showed how even emptiness is empty. Did he just free us from clinging to it?

@drseth.bsky.social Loved hearing you talk about Ashoka. He’s closely tied to Buddhism that many assume he was always a kind, compassionate but he was the opposite until the Kalinga War.Your take? was his adoption real or a way to reshape his legacy as ruler of compassion and peace?

Wake up to what is
"sleep in the sense that they pass through their lives never
knowing and seeing the world as it is".(Rupert Gethin, The Foundations of Buddhism, page 8)This was my favorite quote from the Week 1 reading because it reminded me of Marcus Aurelius' stoicism #DrSethBuddhClass
