I dunno, whoever you quoted here is someone I have blocked. But this seems pathological, for sure.

I mean, it sounds consistent with modern times. I will admit that I never considered this excellent point before though.

Yeah, it honestly felt like some scary dystopian fiction movie last time I was there. I blame your dad.

I guess maybe the riposte is that we have to have the conversation. We also have to be clever about how we have the conversation. Letting the fascists frame it is a losing strategy.

I would like to say that this is what Pete is pointing at, but if so, framing it the way he did doesn’t work. I feel very trepidatious about saying anything about it, being one of those white men who should shut up, but I am really tired of seeing groups of people thrown under the bus.

God I hate this. My hot take is that we should frame identity politics as using some group’s identity as a wedge issue. This is true whether it’s a democrat or a republican doing it. Defending against that isn’t something anyone should ever apologize for.

It me.

Vandalism! :)

None of them are running for office, and they don’t seem to have much useful to say. The point is not to exclude them. It’s to stop taking them more seriously than they deserve. It’s perfectly fine for them to be in the tent, as long as that doesn’t exclude the people doing the work.

I would so watch that. :)

Emma was very clear, but what’s the point of getting in the room with people who are so incapable of courtesy. It’s just painful to watch, like a pack of dogs ripping into a deer. We need better news media.

Because they are all full of hot air? The point is, stop listening to pundits who are just armchair quarterbacks. Pay attention to people who are doing the work. Eg @amandalitman.bsky.social and @espiers.bsky.social and @anandwrites.bsky.social

It was a ridiculous amount of work. But I wish I had time to do more. :)

One of the chapters I’m most proud of (fanfic, don’t get too excited) was a series of scenes where the hero has to get off an island prison north of Whitby, surviving the sea crossing, and then making his way step by step, nearly hit by a train, to Islington, ultimately by way of a canal tunnel.

Because the muse insists?
November 5, 2025 at 11:17 PM
That was rather a lot, but it told me you were at least okay for now, so I’m glad I read it. The bit about Caravaggio was a nice touch. Holy shit. Wishing you well (parasocially), etc.

Back story, setting, continuity. Realness. I’m just saying, you are fighting the good fight. :)
November 5, 2025 at 11:10 PM
A story without a rich back story feels like thin porridge.
November 5, 2025 at 11:02 PM
Possibly so. I have gotten similar treatment from a women’s shelter that called to thank me for a donation, although in this case it was hard to see it as a bad thing: they insisted on confirming my identity before they would say who they were :)

I really hate this. Being a man is, in and of itself, not a crime. But of course there is probably a reason they are doing this, based on true events etc.
