Westhill Welcomes Refugees, Not Racism!

Community groups and residents are gathering on Saturday 23rd August, 5-7pm, for a peaceful event outside Hampton Hotel on Straik Road, Westhill.

There will be food, music, colourful banners and messages of support for the people living there. Come along!

We regret to inform members of the sad loss of our friend and colleague, Renée Slater.

Our thoughts go out to her loved ones at this difficult time.
On behalf of the branch, I regret to inform members of the loss of our friend and colleague, Renée Slater, who died peacefully yesterday after a long period of ill health. As well as serving in our local branch committee and standing as a Scottish Green Party candidate, Renée was part of many campaigns, groups, organisations, and movements, both locally and across the UK. She was dedicated to the fight for environmental and social justice, campaigning with flair, kindness and humour. On a personal note, she was a dear friend and will be sorely missed. We cannot continue to see cuts to core public services. If you can, please join the demo tomorrow morning!

Our former candidate for Aberdeen North, @houstinium.bsky.social, addressed the Disabled People Against Cuts (DPAC) rally in Aberdeen earlier today.

Social security cuts could plunge 250,000 more people, including 50,000 children, into poverty.

Shame on the Labour Party. We deserve better.

We condemn in the strongest terms the violence perpetrated against the Spital Mosque.

We stand in full solidarity with our Muslim colleagues, friends, loved ones, members and neighbours.

There is no place for hate in our city.

Statement from Aberdeen’s mosques below:
There were two incidents last night at Spital Mosque where paint was thrown at the door and pavement area and a few hours later a rock thrown at a window. Following these attacks kind neighbours helped clean up the mess, and others sent message of support. We are very grateful to them. These wilful and despicable criminal acts have been reported to the police and they are investigating. If you saw anything please call Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111 or submit information online at crimestoppers-uk-org. Meanwhile Aberdeen Mosques would like to assure all members of the community that in light of these incidents, all mosques are taking additional security measures as well as being assured of support from the police. The police will be performing additional patrols around the mosques during prayers and other times. Please be alert and remain vigilant, but do not be alarmed and continue with your efforts and prayers to gain maximum benefits from this blessed month.
