Freelancing is extremely difficult with the current landscape and your pitches have to be really REALLY good to get that byline. Or you basically have to have your hard-hitting investigative piece ready to go at a moment's notice. More than ever publication is a connections game no one wants to play

Part of me thinks it lies in how journalism hasn't really adapted well to the changing landscape of how people read stuff they want to read about but that may be too optimistic. I love writing. But I also love getting paid and seeing my invoices get filled.

I've been thinking waay too much recently about the state of journalism over the past eight to ten years. I haven't published anything since early 2014 (lol guess what was happening then) and... I almost never want to return to writing now? (1/?)

There are two in recent memory that I've really grown fond of. The original Quintorius and Osgir.

Welcome to modern journalism. There are *some* good ones out there IE those that don't have to pump three things out every week.

Additionally, I am beyond excited to have the Enchanting Tales art of a card that’s super important to me and my identity as a Magic player. Doubling Season is one of my all time favorite cards and I’m so happy that reprints are allowing more people to play it.

The real winner in all this is Squarespace and everyone sponsored by them. Shitty design tools to make very cookie cutter websites (unless you're smart and, y'know, don't) but if I can whip together a site in fifteen minutes and attach my portfolio, then it works.

Wordpress is a nightmare that we have to learn to deal with.
