At home among the fairy tales and folklore. 🌿

My dark folklore fantasy duology (with a smattering of romance) are now at home in their natural habitat. Or at least, the right fairy tales and folklore listings on ‘zon. 😅

This gothic book ABSOLUTELY destroyed me in the first few pages, and I tell everyone to read it. It influences all my gothic fantasy.

What’s your favourite gothic book?

Evergreen themes of rebellion, folk horror and bi-rep love in my books. My next book I’m planning on writing is going to be even more folk horror and even more rebellion focused. ✊

FANTASY VILLAIN WRITING 101

A brief outline of what I think about when crafting fantasy villains. ⚔️ ☠️

I try make all my villains feel a little bit relatable at least, as I don’t enjoy books where evil is a very binary concept.

My folk horror fantasy is coming really really soon, and I’ll be looking for a street team to hype it up. Let me know if you’re interested. ☺️ Goodies and reviews copies will be available.

It’s the sequel to my Indie Press Award distinguished fave, Dissonance of Bird Song.

One year of my epic folklore fantasy with a smattering of romance selling pretty consistently (except when work got busy/ my holiday.)

What a dreamy year. Still can’t believe I got an Indie Press Award accolade either this book. 😍🌊

WHAT IF EVERY BEST SELLER / POPULAR TRADITIONALLY AQUIRED BOOK PAIRED WITH AN INDIE BOOK OR A LESSER KNOWN TRAD BOOK FOR PROMOTION? HOW GREAT WOULD THAT BE?

What do you think?

Self love and not burning out doing the things we love. 🖤 I’m thinking a lot about this at the moment as I write alongside a busy full time job, so here’s a little message for anyone going through similar and feeling pressure to succeed in things. I hear you. 🖤

Album update: Storm Tongue, the Dissonance of Bird Song album, is on its way.

Storm Tongue is a mix of folk songs close to my heart, including Cornish traditional songs. All of them have ties to Dissonance of Bird Song, and are part of my (and hopefully now your) immersion in the world.

Big news: I’ve been quiet and that’s because my publication schedule has moved up because there’s a fair bit of excitement for the DISSONANCE OF BIRD SONG sequel.

So presenting: BALLAD OF RIVER BONES… a folk horror fantasy with lyrical gloriousness.

Final cover to be revealed. 👀

A land raised by a sea giant… 🌊

In tales of old from Cornwall, the peninsula of Treryn Dinas is said to have been raised from the waves by a sea giant.

This sea-struck land is the setting for Dissonance of Bird Song, which is significant due to Eseld’s sea charms.

Great start to a Friday. 😊🌊

Merfolk and the lure of the sea is a folklore I grew up being told, and there’s many enchanting Cornish merfolk stories that underpin what I tried to do in Dissonance of Bird Song so I’m thrilled Carrion House made this cover SO perfect.

INDIE BOOKS ARE PROFESSIONAL: A hill I will die on.

Yesterday I saw a post from a bookatagram account saying that trad published books are better than indie because indie books have more typos and risk bad covers. Here’s my mini rebuttal: indie books have editors too and AMAZING covers.
