I understand, but a good economy is overall far better for people in pretty much every way. Incomes, crime, mental illness, homelessness, poverty, etc etc. I'd take a good economy any day.

Canada's productivity in its economy has a lot of noise due to the outsized role of resource extraction and its vicious boom and bust cycles. Essentially, less productive methods of extraction are viable when commodity prices are high, lowering productivity. Beyond that, it's just the ICT sector.
