I’ve been on maternity leave since September but I’ve managed to make time for some stargazing. showed my new pal the northern lights and a comet already ☄️

NGC 1501, also known as the Oyster Nebula, is a planetary nebula: an old star shedding its outer layers. it has nothing to do with planets, but when Charles Messier found the first one, in 1764, he thought the rounded parts looked like a planet 🪐
